SERIOUS PREPARATION FOR THE FUTURE

What This Means To You

There are more than a few things that college admissions officials have learned over the years about what kind of experiences prepare a teenager to become a successful college graduate. When college officials make their admissions decisions, they look for academic and social maturity. They look for behaviors that indicate the applicant is willing to exert the effort it will take to successfully graduate and has the stamina to complete the serious preparation for the future that colleges and universities demand.

These admissions officers know that a young adult who wants to attend their college will need to prove his or her deep commitment to learning with demonstrated performance in rigorous high school courses. These officials know that to be successful, college students will have to forgo ‘partying’ to do the math, will need the staying power to survive four or more years of demanding schedules and killer coursework, and must have the ability to keep their eyes on the prize – the degree that will change the trajectory of their lives.

That’s why a college applicant who has staying power as evidenced by long-term commitments to one or two extra curricular activities done in depth over a long period of time (especially with the added demand of leadership responsibilities in those activities) will trounce the applicant who played on a eight different sports team every year, took summers off, and did nothing to advance his or her understanding about what the world will demand.

And of course, at The Internship Depot, we offer opportunities for you to get the experiences that will help you meet those expectations. Participation in our Rainmakers Internship Preparation Program (RIPP) gives you what (college admissions officials) want. That wasn’t accidental. We worked very hard to ensure our program meets the demands of college admissions officials and employers alike.

In RIPP. you will engage in a rigorous, fast-paced, multi-year set of activities that, if you are successful, will culminate in a business internship. These activities will fit in the small spaces of time that you have in your busy day. You will assume both leadership and followship roles and learn how to work as part of an accountable team. You will learn to write a performance-based résumé. You will participate in mock telephone interviews. You will interact with our business Mentors who will help you understand the world of work.

We have carefully constructed our program of work so that it does not compete with the time you will need to generate stellar academic results.

In RIPP, you will learn more about what life will demand of you. You will get the practical experience that only a business internship can provide. You will earn a credential. You will build a professional network.
